Hairdressing

Greenbank College’s Hairdressing department is based at Salon HQ; a standalone building on the edge of the College campus.

Newly built and completed in 2011 the salon is well equipped and offers learners the opportunity to experience a ‘real’ salon environment. The salon is open to the public and offers cutting, colouring,
perming and styling.

Learners on the Level 1 course will learn the skills needed to work as an assistant in a salon. This qualification enables learners to work on a range of practical and theoretical hairdressing skills plus real work activities. These include shampooing, conditioning and blow drying hair, supporting reception duties and assisting more experienced staff with salon services. To be successful learners need to accept personal responsibility and enjoy working as part of a team.

The Level 2 course requires learners to demonstrate a board range of varied work activities as required by the hairdressing industry. These include basic cutting, colouring and styling and learners are required to produce a portfolio of evidence of these skills to successfully complete the course.
