Course content

The Active IQ Level 1 Award in Lifestyle Management (QCF) allows learners to gain the underpinning knowledge and skills required to manage their own lifestyle with a view to making improvements to their health and wellbeing.

Students will cover:

  • Their lifestyle choices and identify where positive changes could be made to improve health and wellbeing
  • Personal development and how their personal skills, abilities and behaviours can be improved
  • A variety of leisure activities and state a preference as to what they do in their leisure time
  • The benefits of a balanced diet and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle
  • The importance of maintaining a healthy diet

Units

To achieve the qualification learners must complete the mandatory units (6 credits) from Group A and (2 credits / one unit) from Group B. Overall a credit value of 8 must be achieved.

Group A (Mandatory)

  • Lifestyle Management (Level 1, 2 credits)
  • Developing Self (Level 1, 2 credits)
  • Making the Most of Leisure Time (Level 1, 2 credits)

Group B

  • Healthy Eating in Personal Development (Level 2, 2 credits)
  • Healthy Eating (Level 1, 2 credits)

Who is the course for?

People aged 16-18 (or up to 24 if you have an EHC Plan) and who wish to know how to improve their current lifestyle and well-being in regards to healthy food choices, personal development and leisure time.

Assessment method

  • Coursework
  • Practical demonstration / assignment

Entry requirements

This qualification is open to all and no previous experience or qualifications are required. There are no specific pre-requisite qualifications; however, there is also a large element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have good skills in communication pitched at Level 1.

Future opportunities / career options

On successful completion, students may progress to Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction and Self-Development in Active Leisure

When is the course run?

September 2018

Students must be able to commit to some independent study time in preparation for the exams, worksheets and their case studies.

Students must be flexible in their approach to assessments and assessment feedback.

Course Fees

Courses are free for all students aged 16 – 18 (or up to 24 if you declare a disability and have an Education, Health & Care Plan).
