Course content

An introduction to the sewing machine for complete beginners, including – Safe Working, functions of a sewing machine, basic construction and decorative methods. Learners will make a collection of basic items including bag, apron, cushion cover, cosmetic purse.

Who is the course for?

Complete beginners with no previous experience who wish to learn how to use a sewing machine.

Entry requirements

No experience necessary – must demonstrate an ability to work safely and be able to follow simple instructions.

Assessment Method

Ongoing verbal and written tutor feedback across the duration of the course.

Future opportunities / career options

Progression to Introduction to Garment Making in the following term.

When is the course run?

Autumn Term: Tuesday 9am – 12 noon starting Tuesday 12 September 2017 – 12 weeks

Spring Term: Friday 9am – 12 noon starting Friday 12 January 2018 – 10 weeks

Summer Term: Monday 9am – 12 noon starting Monday 9 April 2018 – 12 weeks

How much does the course cost?

Autumn Term: £36; Spring Term: £30; Summer Term: £36 – See Money Matters for fee exemptions.

A registration and material fee of £20 is also payable by everyone.

Fees must be paid on time. Failure to pay on time will result in a £10 late payment charge.
