Introduction to a Sewing Machine

Course content

An introduction to the sewing machine for complete beginners, including – safe working, functions of a sewing machine, basic construction and decorative methods. Learners make a collection of basic items including bag, apron, cushion cover, cosmetic purse.

Who is the course for?

Complete beginners with no previous experience.

Assessment method

Non accredited – no formal assessment

Entry requirements

No experience necessary – must demonstrate an ability to work safely.

Future opportunities / career options

Progression to “Make and Embellish a Simple Skirt or Waistcoat”.

When the course is run?

Spring Term
Every Tuesday starting 10 January 2012 · 9am – 12 noon or
Every Wednesday starting 11 January 2012 · 1pm – 4.00pm

Summer Term
Every Wednesday starting 18 April 2012 · 1pm – 4.00pm

How much does it cost?

Learners under the age of 18 are exempt from paying course fees.
For learners aged 18 plus, the cost of the course is £60 (including registration fee) plus £10 towards materials. However, there are some exemptions. Please visit the Money Matters page for further details.
The registration fee of £10 is still applicable to learners eligible for course fee exemptions.
