Soft Furnishings for Beginners

Course content

Basic construction techniques for the production of soft furnishing cushion covers for the home – including zip insertion, piping and simple decorative techniques including applique and basic machine embroidery. Learners produce a varied collection of cushion covers across the course.

Who is the course for?

Beginners to soft furnishings who have a basic working knowledge of the use of a sewing machine.

Assessment method

No formal assessment.

Entry requirements

Ability to use the sewing machine safely on a basic level.

Future opportunities / career options

Progression to ‘Decorative Fashion Accessories’, ‘Simple Household Accessories’ or ‘Advanced Soft Furnishings’.

When is the course run?

Term 1 – Monday 9am-12noon, 3 September to 17 December (15 weeks)
or
Term 2 – Friday 9am-12noon, 11 January to 22 March (10 weeks)
