Course content
Mandatory units
- Developing leadership skills
- Provision of sport within the community
- Lead sessions designed to improve fitness
- Organise and lead a sports event or competition
- Legal and ethical responsibilities when working with others
- Lead sport/activity sessions for children*
- Lead sport/activity sessions for older people*
- Lead sport/activity sessions for disabled people*
*Two units out of the three must be chosen
Who is the course for?
For people interested in working or volunteering as a sports coach. Learners must be aged 16 or above. Learners must have completed the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership.
Assessment method
- Written assessment and interview.
- Completion of log book.
- 30 hours community sports volunteering.
- Basic First Aid certificate.
Entry requirements
Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2 or above.
Future opportunities / career options
Volunteer experience at sporting events and competitions. Progression to Level 3 Exercise and Fitness. Sports Coaching, Personal Training and Teaching Assistant opportunities may arise on completion of this course.
When the course is run?
Daytime, 1 full day per week for 2 terms (January – July).
How much does it cost?
Learners under the age of 18 are exempt from paying course fees.
For learners aged 18 plus the cost of the course is £350. However, there are some exemptions.
