Course content

Learners complete tasks including:

  • Calculations with whole numbers and negative numbers
  • Calculations with fractions, decimals and percentages in practical situations
  • Using ratio, including scale drawing
  • Use formulae to resolve problems
  • Measurements, including converting between metric units and imperial units
  • Calculations of perimeter, area and volume of compound shapes
  • Handling data, including line graphs, scatter graphs and pie charts
  • Statistics: mean, mode median and range
  • Chance of events happening expressed as a fraction, decimal or percentage

This course is suitable for learners who:

  • Have achieved Level 1 Functional Skills
  • Are taking a vocational course for which maths is needed
  • Would like to brush up on their GCSE maths skills in order to start a vocational programme

To start on this course you need to demonstrate at Initial Assessment that this is a suitable level for your current skills.
