Greenbank College is working in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to offer a part-time foundation degree; Inclusive Sport Development. A limited number of places are available for the next intake starting in September.

The course lasts for three years, with an option to progress to BA (Hons) Sports Development with Inclusion at LJMU.

A foundation degree is a degree level qualification which combines academic study with workplace learning. UCAS identifies some of the benefits of Foundation Degrees as:

1. Accessibility:
Formal qualifications are not always necessary for entry onto a foundation degree course. Relevant experience, achievements and motivation to undertake the programme will all be taken into account as well. Students are able to study at their own pace, fit it in around any paid work and can continue studying on completion of a foundation degree in order to achieve a full honours degree.

2. Better career prospects:
Employers lead in the design and development of foundation degrees. This ensures that they meet current employment needs. Therefore, on completion of a foundation degree the student has a qualification and a range of skills which are attractive to employers.

Final year student Ibraheem Awad said:

“I completed Level 2 and 3 soccer coaching courses at my old school before enrolling on the foundation degree programme. It was much better for me to access Higher Education in this way and once I have completed the course I would like to progress onto the full honours degree at Liverpool John Moores University.”

Programme Leader Mark Palmer added:

“Getting exam results can be really stressful but don’t be disheartened if you don’t get the results that you need for your first choice course – there are still lots of really good courses available, which might suit you better. Our Foundation Degree can be accessed through clearing. Contact: 0151 231 5340 or Email: ecl-recruitment@ljmu.ac.uk
