A group of students went to Mersey Bowman Tennis Club on 13 and 14 November for a volunteering project to help renovate their facilities. The visit comes after a successful project completed in the summer at the club.

The project was in partnership with Volunteer it Yourself and Wickes. The students were given guidance on how to work safely and cleanly, how to prepare surfaces and painting by the staff from Wickes.

One of the mentors, Bella, said:

“The students were fabulous. They really got stuck in and did a brilliant job. They were all so positive about the project and it was a genuine pleasure to work with them.”

Placement Officer, Jan Edmonds, commented on the opportunity:

“This was a great opportunity for our students to work alongside professionals in the work place, gain employability and life skills. I was really proud of how they performed and what they achieved.  ”

Greenbank College student, Letticha, said:

“I enjoyed volunteering at the Tennis Club as it was something I had not done before, it was different. I also enjoyed socialising with the other volunteers. I learnt how to set up the equipment and how to paint properly.”
