This is a Skills Builder course which is designed to help develop your confidence to enable you to move onto an accredited course as well as independence, confidence and skills for daily living.

Course content

Develop basic skills in art and design and explore a range of craft materials and techniques in preparation for an accredited course at level 1 starting in Terms 2 and 3.

Who is the course for?

  • People aged 16 – 18
  • People aged up to 24 who declare a disability and have an EHC Plan
  • Students wishing to develop art and craft skills on a short one term introductory course that prepares them for an accredited Level 1 course in terms 2 & 3

Entry requirements

  • A keen interest in art and design. Prior experience is not necessary but students should demonstrate an ability to work at level 1 standard. (Students may have previously completed an accredited course at Entry level 3).
  • English and maths skills at entry 3 are required for progressing on to the Level 1 course in term 2.


  • Progression to an accredited course at Level 1 in terms 2 and 3.

When is the course run?

September 2019

Study Programme

If you are aged 16 – 18 or up to 24 who declare a disability and have an EHC Plan, this course will form part of your study programme. The programme also includes English and maths qualifications, employability skills, a work placement and other personal development and enrichment opportunities.

Course fees

Courses are free for all students aged 16 – 18 (or up to 24 if you declare a disability and have an Education, Health & Care Plan).
