What is the aim of the course?

Practical cooking course using fresh produce.

Understanding of health and safety & food hygiene in the home and catering industry.

Who is this course for?

  • Liverpool adults aged 19 or above who declare a mild or moderate learning difficulty and/or disability.
  • Unemployed adults, those on limited contract or at risk of redundancy.

Prior qualifications needed for this course

None.

Before I start the course I must be able to:

Commit to a good level of attendance.

Is there a follow on course I can take once I have finished?

Entry 3 course-Introduction to the hospitality industry or higher-level catering qualification or other cooking courses.

What would a typical session look like?

  • Cooking a basic meal or recipe using fresh ingredients.
  • Use different recipes and understand the costs of ingredients.
  • Work safely in the kitchen and comply with food hygiene standards.

How will I know that I am progressing?

Each learner will have a Personal Progress Diary which he or she will update briefly during each session.  In addition to this your tutor will give you regular updates on your progress both verbally and in written feedback.

At the end of the course you will have a better understanding of the following objectives:

  • Work safely and be aware of dangers in a kitchen.
  • Store food safely.
  • Know how to choose ingredients and cost them.
  • Able to prepare and cook a range of recipes/menus.

Is there anything which I will need to buy or provide during the course?

An apron.
All food ingredients will be supplied.
