Course content

The Level 1 Skills for Sport and Active Leisure qualification provides a range of basic, introductory skills, as well as core knowledge required in order to work in the sector.

During your time on the course you will be assessed in a variety of ways to check your progress. This will include observations in work placement activities, evaluations, presentations, task sheet completion, work placement diaries, question and answer.

  • Taking part in exercise and fitness
  • Working in sport and active leisure
  • Understand the prinicples of planning coaching activities in sport
  • Understand the prinicples of conducting coaching activities in sport
  • Understand the prinicples of evaluating coaching activities in sport
  • Working with children in sport and active leisure
  • Assisting a leader of sports or active leisure activities to plan and deliver an activity
  • Career planning
  • Preparing for work placement
  • Positive attitudes and behaviours at work
  • Skills for team workers
  • Learning from work placement

Who is the course for?

  • People aged 16 – 18
  • People aged up to 24 who declare a disability and have an EHC Plan

Entry requirements

  • English and Maths at Entry Level 3 or above.
  • A willingness to take part in inclusive sport and exercise sessions.

Progression

  • Level 2 Award and Certificate in Skills for Sport and Active Leisure
  • Entry Level employment in the sport and active leisure industry such as Sports Leader or Sports Coach

Study Programme

If you are aged 16 – 18 or up to 24 who declare a disability and have an EHC Plan, this course will form part of your study programme. The programme also includes English and maths qualifications, employability skills, a work placement and other personal development and enrichment opportunities.

Courses are free for all students aged 16 – 18 (or up to 24 if you declare a disability and have an Education, Health & Care Plan).
