Course content

The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Award in Social Media gives learners the opportunity to:

  • develop knowledge and skills related to social media for personal use
  • develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning
  • develop knowledge of how businesses use social media

Principles of Social Media
This unit aims to develop awareness of a wide range of social media platforms, both general use and specialist types. Learners will develop their understanding of how to use social media effectively for personal and business purposes and the benefits and risks associated with that use.

Social Media for Personal Use
This unit aims to enable learners to set up, use and maintain appropriate social media tools. Learners will develop the skills required to customise tools, create and optimise content and make the best use of tools and techniques to grow their personal online presence.

Who is the course for?

People aged 16 – 18

People aged up to 24 who declare a disability and have an EHC Plan

The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Award in Social Media is for learners who work in, or want to work in, the social media and digital marketing sector.

Assessment method

Both units will be internally assessed by course tutors and externally moderated by BTEC Examiner-moderators.

Entry requirements

All prospective students will undertake an initial assessment to ensure they have basic computer knowledge. Students should have gained or be working towards recognised qualifications in English and Maths at Entry 3.

Future opportunities / career options

Progression onto ITQ Level 1 – Office Applications or ITQ Level 1 – Multimedia

Courses are free for all students aged 16 – 18 (or up to 24 if you declare a disability and have an Education, Health & Care Plan).
