Course content

The Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Sport and Active Leisure qualification is intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to the sports and active leisure sector, equipping learners with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills.

There will be a focus on building character, resilience, confidence, skills and knowledge through a range of planned session activities.

Methods of assessment include observations, assignments, group and individual written tasks. A portfolio of evidence will be developed and units assessed at agreed points of the course. There are also work experience opportunies provided in assisting at Greenbank Sports Academy.

  • Taking part in exercise and fitness
  • Working in sport and active leisure
  • Understand the principles of planning coaching sessions
  • Understand the principles of conducting coaching activities in sport
  • Understand the principles of evaluating coaching sessions
  • Working with children in sport and active leisure
  • Assisting a leader of sports or active leisure activities to plan and deliver an activity

Who is the course for?

  • People aged 16 – 18
  • People aged up to 24 who declare a disability and have an EHC Plan
  • 19+

Entry requirements

  • English and Maths at Entry Level 3 or above.
  • A willingness to take part in inclusive sport and exercise sessions.

Course Fees

Courses are free for all students aged 16 – 18 (or up to 24 if you declare a disability and have an Education, Health & Care Plan).

For people aged 19+ the course fee is £1417. You may be eligible for fee remission. See Money Matters for details.
