First year Foundation Degree student Nathan Maguire finished first in the 800m Wheelchair Race and second in 100m Wheelchair event at the BUCS Outdoor Athletics championships held at Bedford International Stadium from 30th April to 2nd May. He was at the event as part of LJMU’s team.

British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national governing body for Higher Education (HE) sport in the UK. BUCS deliver more than 50 sports, including everything from archery to ultimate frisbee to almost 170 member institutions (now including some FE Colleges), comprising a busy league programme of over 4800 teams and over 100 championships events every year.

100’s of athletes descended on Bedford from universities across the UK hoping to add to their university’s trophy cabinet at the track and field event.

Nathan, who is supported by Para-futures, a British Athletics programme for athletes and their coaches which underpins the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) and has the potential to be selected for Rio 2016 Paralympics, commented:

“It was a great event, a fantastic opportunity to represent my university.”
