Upgrading your skills, retraining for a new career or improving your employment prospects is important however old you are. As well as increasing your skills, taking part in a course also helps you to meet new people and build confidence. Age shouldn’t be a barrier – at Greenbank College we have students aged from 16 to 86!

Why study for a vocational qualification?

Achieving a vocational qualification can help you to:

  • Get the skills that you need to start work
  • Help you decide whether it is the job you want to do
  • Develop your career
  • Go on to further learning

Vocational qualification levels can be compared to other qualifications. Entry and Level 1 qualifications build confidence and help people prepare for further learning and work. Level 2 is the equivalent of grades A* to C at GCSE and Level 3 qualifications are equivalent to A Levels.

Refreshing your English, Maths and ICT Skills

English, Maths and ICT are needed in so many aspects of everyday life and brushing up on these skills can help you to:

  •  Get a job
  •  Fill in forms
  •  Help your children do their homework
  •  Manage your money
  •  Increase your confidence

Help with Fees

Cost can be a big barrier for people wanting to get back into education but there are various options available to help with course fees. Courses are free up to Level 2 for adults meeting certain criteria. For those who do need to pay course fees, there may be financial support available towards the cost of a course such as a Professional and Career Development Loan. Level 3 courses can be funded using a 24+ Advance Learning Loan.
