We are working in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to offer a full time Foundation Degree; Disability Sport Coaching and Development. A limited number of places are available through clearing for the next intake starting in September.

Programme Leader Mark Palmer said:

“Getting exam results can be really stressful but don’t be disheartened if you don’t get the results that you need for your first choice course – there are still lots of really good courses available, which might suit you better. The course lasts for two years, with an option to progress to BA (Hons) Sports Coaching at LJMU.

A foundation degree is a degree level qualification which combines academic study with workplace learning. UCAS identifies some of the benefits of Foundation Degrees as:

1. Accessibility:
   Formal qualifications are not always necessary for entry onto a foundation degree course. Relevant experience, achievements and motivation to undertake the programme will all be taken into account as well. Students are able to study at their own pace, fit it in around any paid work and can continue studying on completion of a foundation degree in order to achieve a full honours degree.
2. Better career prospects:
   Employers lead in the design and development of foundation degrees. This ensures that they meet current employment needs. Therefore, on completion of a foundation degree the student has a qualification and a range of skills which are attractive to employers.

“I found out about the Foundation Degree course online and it sounded perfect. I haven’t been disappointed; I’ve had loads of great opportunities to gain experience at disability sports events and met some really interesting people. The structure of the course has meant that I have also been able to continue my job and earn money whilst I study, which is great.

Everyone is really friendly, helpful and supportive. Before coming to Greenbank, I thought that University wasn’t for me but my experience here has made me realise that this isn’t the case.”
