We have put together these Frequently Asked Questions to help answer some of the queries you might have about Greenbank College. If you have any further questions, please contact us.
We have 14 courses to choose from across 6 work-related areas as well as English and maths at various levels.
No, you choose an area that is suited to your career aspirations.
Yes. You will need to have achieved English and maths at least one level below the course you want to do. For example, for a Level 1 work-related course, you must have achieved English and maths at Entry Level 3. You will also have had to achieve the previous level of the work-related qualification, so for a Level 2, you must have gained the Level 1.
If you’ve decided that you would like to study at Greenbank College, applying is easy! You just need to fill in our online application form and we will do the rest.
Once we receive your application form, we will contact you to arrange a skills assessment and an informal chat. If appropriate, we will offer you a place on the course of your choice and if you are 16-18 (or up to 24 with EHCP) you will have a chance to attend a taster.
Yes, we are now able to offer transitions days again to help you settle into college if you are 16-18 (or up to 24 with an EHCP). These usually take place in July and August. Once you have been accepted for a place at the college, we will contact you with details of our transition days.
Offer letters are sent out in May / June.
You will attend college 2-4 days per week depending on the level of work-related course you are on.
All our courses last for 1 year
It could be 9am or 1pm, depending on the course you are on.
You are expected to make your own way to college. However, there are some circumstances when you are eligible for help:
• If you are under 18, unable to travel independently and have not had travel training you may be entitled to transport from the local authority.
• If you are over 18, we can provide taxis to a small number of students who are unable to travel to college on public transport. This is means-tested and you may be asked to make a contribution to the cost.
Yes. A College Bursary Fund is available for travel and uniform costs. Eligibility is dependent on personal circumstances. Full details on eligibility can be found on our Money Matters page.
We have a canteen where you can buy your lunch or eat your packed lunch. Or alternatively, there are benches around the grounds outside if your prefer.
