A group of students from Greenbank College and volunteers from Greenbank Sports Academy came together to lend a helping hand to refurbish Bowmen Tennis Club in Sefton Park.

The team took on a variety of tasks including painting and laying drainage grids to an outside area. They were mentored by professional tradespeople who helped teach skills such as working safely, using the correct tools for the job, painting, woodwork and laying drainage grids.

The project was organised by Volunteer it Yourself which combines volunteering and DIY by teaching young people the skills required to make a contribution to refurbishing community buildings. The project is delivered in partnership with Wickes, the home improvement retailer, who donate materials and tools in kind to their projects.

Stephanie Smith, Empower Activity Support Worker at Greenbank Sports Academy said:

“The tennis refurbishment project was a great opportunity for our students to learn and tap into their strengths and skill. Working together with VIY was brilliant and I am very proud of everyone involved.”
