Parents and carers are one of the biggest influences on a young person’s career journey.
In our recent learner voice survey, 46% of learners said their parents or carers had helped them explore career options and plan for the future.
That’s why we place such importance on working in partnership with families.
Throughout a learner’s time with us, we provide a range of opportunities for parents and carers to be involved, stay informed and support their young person’s aspirations, helping them make confident and informed decisions about their next steps. These include:
- attending initial interviews to support your young person’s transition into Greenbank
- attending progress reviews with course tutors
- attending career guidance meetings to explore your young person’s options after Greenbank
- attending transition and careers events to get information, advice and guidance directly from providers
- receiving termly careers bulletins
- having opportunities to provide feedback
Careers resources for families
In person:
- Amanda Tozer is the Careers & IAG officer at Greenbank College and is your first point of contact for careers support. You can request to speak or meet with her any time by calling reception on 0151 733 7255 or sending her an e-mail to amanda.tozer@greenbank.org.uk
- Career Connect offers free, impartial careers advice for young people and families. Advisers can discuss education pathways, apprenticeships, employment and progression routes. They have accessible locations in Liverpool, including Crawford House in Toxteth and Norris Green Youth Centre, and appointments can be made for in-person support.
- Liverpool Central Library provides free access to computers, Wi-Fi and staff who can help people get online. Libraries also regularly host digital support sessions, making them an excellent option for parents who need help researching careers, apprenticeships or completing applications.
- Thrive Careers Hub is a coffee shop where young people can get free access to job search support and advice.
- Liverpool in Work offers one-to-one employment support for adults aged 18 and over. Although the service is designed to help adults into work, it can also help parents understand the local labour market, qualifications and training opportunities, which can benefit conversations with their children. Support is available by telephone and in person.

- The Digital Prospectus: A searchable database containing hundreds of local training providers, colleges, and university courses.
- Apprenticeship Matching: Live job vacancies across Liverpool, Sefton, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens, and Halton.
- Travel Discounts: Information on the LCR Apprentice Travelcard, which cuts bus and train travel costs in half for young people aged 19–24.
- Career Guides: Downloadable resources that explain local growth industries, average salaries, and the qualifications needed to enter specific fields.
- Visit the LCR Be More site: Go to the main homepage and look for the dedicated “Young People” or “Learners” sections.
- Use the Search Filters: Filter vacancies by entry level, industry, or proximity to your home postcode.
- Explore the Careers Hub: The LCR Careers Hub is your one-stop destination for careers support across the Liverpool City Region.
SEND Local Offer
Liverpool’s local offer website provides information for children and young people up to the age of 25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) their parents or carers – all in one place.
National Careers Service
The National Careers Service provides information to support people with their career, learning and training choices. For parents, caregivers and guardians this is a great digital portal where you can get advice and information to help you support your son or daughter with their next steps.

Whether you’re deciding what to study, planning your future career or just curious about the world of work, we’re here to help with advice from experts and from young people who’ve found a path that suits them. This is a great interactive way to explore different career paths with your son or daughter.
