We want to ensure that you are given the best preparation for the future through high quality careers information, advice and guidance. As a major provider of education and training for Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) students, we seek to address very low levels of inclusion of SEND people within the workplace and to increase aspirations for all, build links with local employers and deliver employability within a structured programme.

Our experienced and qualified recruitment and careers advisors are here to help you, your son or daughter make clear informed choices about learning opportunities and career pathways.

Our Information, Advice and Guidance advisors will:

  • Look at your experience and any qualifications you have
  • Discuss your future aims and career ambitions
  • Help you apply for the right course to meet your goals

What is a Career Guidance Meeting?

  • A careers guidance meeting is designed to provide impartial information, advice and guidance and will take place between a qualified Level 6 Careers Adviser and a learner.
  • Amanda Tozer is our designated Careers Leader and holds a Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Career Development sand is our designated careers advisor.
  • Guidance meetings are conducted on a one-to-one basis in our Guidance Room, although parents/guardians and members of our learning support and teaching staff may also be present to support the learner during the session.

Do all learners have a Guidance Meeting?

  • We conduct these meeting on a priority basis for learners who are in their last year at Greenbank College or who are need extra support to weigh up their career options. However, all learners will have a guidance meeting at some point during their journey at Greenbank College and we welcome parents, carers and guardians to request an interview if they wish by e-mail to our designated Careers & IAG Lead Amanda Tozer: amanda.tozer@greenbank.org.uk

I have just applied to Greenbank and I have been invited to attend an Pre-Enrolment Interview – what does this entail?

  • Once we have received your application form, we will invite you in to Greenbank College for a tour of the facilities and an informal one-to-one chat. You may attend with a parent/guardian or a tutor from your school. The aim of this chat or “Pre-Enrolment Interview” is to map out a starting point for your journey at Greenbank by finding out more about you, the qualifications you have achieved to date, your support needs, your careers goals and any work experience you may have already undertaken. By the end of the interview, we should be able to advise on the most suitable course based on your qualifications, interests and career goals so that your starting point enables you to progress towards your goal.
  • The Pre-Enrolment Interview is conducted by Amanda Tozer.
  • Once you have attended the interview, we will invite you to participate in a “Taster Session” in the course which you have chosen on the application form. The aim of the taster session is to allow you meet the tutors, to enable the tutor to assess your suitability for the course and, more importantly, to help you decide if you have made the right choice for your future.
  • After you have attended a taster session and we have gathered feedback from our vocational tutors, we will decide if we can offer you a place at Greenbank or not.
  • If you are offered a place, you will be invited to attend a “Transition Day“, which takes place during the summer break. This is a great opportunity to meet other new starters and build friendships, familiarise yourself with the layout of the college, meet members of our SEND and learning support team, and help you with your transition from school to college.
