Our vision

Greenbank’s vision is that everyone should be able to achieve their full potential and feel valued for the contribution that they can make to everyday life and society.

Greenbank College strives to ensure that its learners are given the best preparation for the future through high-quality careers information, advice and guidance and meaningful encounters and opportunities with employers, training providers, education providers, apprenticeship providers and community organisations.

As a major provider of education and training for Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) students, Greenbank seeks to address very low levels of inclusion of SEND people within the workplace and to increase aspirations for all by building links with local employers and delivering employability skills within a structured programme.

How do we deliver our careers programme?

Our Careers Strategy and our Careers Programme is based on the eight Gatsby Benchmarks to ensure that we offer a stable and structured programme of high-quality career education to all our students.

We deliver this through:

  • an embedded programme of careers education and personal development, complemented by enrichment activities, internal and external work experience, encounters with education and training providers, inspiring guest speakers and industry visits.
  • Personal Guidance meetings with bespoke action plans.
  • Learner Voice. We collect feedback from our learners to see how confident they feel about the future, their skills and their career choices. This data is used to inform an annual ‘Career Theme’, which learners work on and discuss in class. Previous themes have focused on problem-solving, communication, the visitor economy, creative & digital and jobs of the future.
  • Visual resources designed to help learners plan their journey, reach their goals and think positively about the future, such as career maps, career trees and visual aids created with the input of a Speech & Language Therapist to enable learners with more complex needs to express their ideas and thoughts.
  • Partnerships with external agencies and organisations to give learners the chance to experience the world of work and education first-hand.
