Our Level 1 and Level 2 Health & Care courses offer you an introduction to the industry where you will develop an understanding of both health and childcare professions and explore many healthcare related topics including keeping active, healthy living and preschool activities.
Main objectives:
- To enable learners to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors
- To enable learners to tailor their learning to their interests through the provision of a broad range of optional units
- To provide opportunities for the development of transferable skills
- To support progression to Level 3 qualifications in Health & Care and apprenticeships
- To provide learners with the opportunity to progress to employment, in due course, in a range of job roles in the care sectors.
What will I study?
Our Health & Care qualifications comprise mandatory and optional units. The optional units allow you to choose from a variety of areas to tailor the qualification to your interests. From the mandatory units, you will gain knowledge and understanding in the following areas within health, social care and children and young people’s settings:
- Principles and values
- Service provision and roles
- Protection and safeguarding
- Equality and inclusion
- Communication
- Health and safety
- Person-centred approaches
From the optional units, you will gain knowledge and understanding in the areas of your choice within health, social care and children and young people’s settings, these include (but are not limited to):
- Introduction to learning disability
- Introduction to physical disability
- Introduction to dementia
- Introduction to mental health
- Healthy lifestyle
- Job opportunities
- Health and social care services
How is it assessed?
You will be assessed through written assessments, practical observations, witness statements, presentations and work booklets. The qualification is graded pass, merit or distinction and all assessment criteria for a pass at a minimum must be achieved.
What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?
Once you have successfully completed this course, you could progress on to the level 2 Health & Care (subject to specific course requirements). You may also seek employment in the Health and Care sector at an assistant, in a non-supervisory role.

What could I progress to?
After you have achieved the Level 1 qualification, you could progress on to a Level 2 qualification in Health & Care. At post-Level 2 stage, there are a range of opportunities open to you:

- Employment
What is a Study Programme?
If you are aged 16 – 18 or up to 25, declare a disability and have an EHC Plan this course will form part of your study programme.
The programme also includes:
