to Lawrence for giving our learners some invaluable insights into his job as a software developer and coder. We learned SO much:- his route to work
- what his organisation does
- what his daily work entails and the coding languages he uses
- timeframes, deadlines and time management
- who he works with and what his team members do
- the AGILE and KANBAN work processes they use to organise work flow and productivity
- their peer review system to ensure that code is correct and tickets have been properly actioned
- some of the typical problem-solving scenarios he comes up against in his daily work and how he overcomes them.
Big takeaways: it’s all about communication and teamwork. AND, “you will never know everything. There is always more to learn” because this is a young science. Many young people have preconceived ideas about what programmers do and think that they work alone without the need to form part of a wider team. What Lawrence taught us today is that, whilst many programmers work remotely, they are in constant communication with their team to respond to tickets, peer review each other’s work, fix bugs and use their collective knowledge and experience to get the job done!
